MS Rating System And How It Should Be Used

A slow running computer could be caused by several factors and a few of those could actually be outside of the computer itself. Problems like a slow internet or a slow printer can make it seem like you’ve a slow computer problem when you actually do not. It may be just one software that’s simply too much for your Computer.

Compare internet and pc speeds by checking your actual computer speed, directly on your control panel. Windows has it all present for you in their Window Experience Index and it’s not difficult to find. Just go to the Control Panel and locate & click “System”. Here you see the important info about your Computer and you should see a blue number above the system info and a link for the Experience Index.

In the Windows Experience Index are sub-scores & a base score for your PC. The PC that I’m looking at now has a base of 3.4 that is not very good. But base is the lowest of the scores and that’s in the graphics. The CPU speed is 5.1 that’s excellent and so is the data transfer speed at a great 5.6.

The higher the score the better the Computer is running. The maximum score available is 5.9 for our current computers but Microsoft plans to increase that as capacities raise in new computers & technology. This is used for many things from evaluating performance to selecting software which are compatible with your computer’s capability.

Microsoft has a system set to make certain you do not purchase and install software that won’t run at its best on your system (all standard internet browsers are rated OK). This base score needs to be matched to any software. If a software has a rating of 3.5 on its box or download specifications and your computer has a base score of 3.0 then the software is too much for your Computer.

There might not be anything wrong with the PC but an overly demanding program could slow the processor down and cause a slow running computer. You just have to match your computer with the accurate programs. If your computer has pretty good Windows Experience Index numbers and yet isn’t doing as it should, or the Index numbers are lower than they need to be, your next step should be to Internet connection speed with your ISP. And you should run a registry scan and see if the issue is coming from there.

Here is some slow computer help ideas: Let your Anti-Virus do its job!

It is not unusual to find a computer that has never had a complete computer virus scan run. Now that may sound crazy since we all have an anti-virus software installed and running on our computer.. right? So if we have the program on our computer isn’t everything OK? NO!

Most anti-virus programs or other PC maintenance type software such as registry optimizers will not run a “whole” computer scan without being instructed to do so. The reason is that a complete system scan will take quite a long time, maybe even a couple of hours, depending on how much “stuff” you are storing.

So you don’t want your computer to do this when you may need to use it. You need to schedule it. And it can be done at night or when you are away if everything is set correctly. So lets talk about how to do this.

First see when your computer did a whole scan last by opening up your virus program and checking its information. Opening the program can usually be done by double clicking the desk top icon or in the bottom tray. You should see the update and last scan date and you may be surprised how long ago the scan was done. Updates are usually set to be done automatically and are done almost daily.

Anti-virus and other protection programs protect you as you use the computer whether downloading, opening up files, opening documents, etc. so you do not get new viruses loaded onto your PC. They don’t normally do scans of existing files. They can of course but don’t do them without being told to do so.

If you are having computer issues such as your PC is running slow then schedule a whole computer scan and see if it finds some hidden viruses that are slowing your system down. Find how to set it for a specific time and schedule it’s convenient you. Also, and this is important, go into options and make sure it is set to automatically repair or quarantine any contaminated files. If you don’t the scan will stop and wait for instructions… and of course you are not going to be there.

Many times a whole scan will find nothing, even on a slow computer. But you need to be sure something has not slipped past and infected you. And this is something you can do yourself very easily.

If you don’t find any problems from the virus scan I encourage you to do the other scan, the registry scan we have talked about. The virus scan will not pick up the errors, corrupt files, and junk files in the registry area. It is, as I’ve said before, free, easy, safe and simply the next best step for slow computer issues.

Is your slow running computer having trouble with the windows operating system not updating?

When you can’t update your Windows files and your computer runs slow.. here are some ideas and experiences we’ve had. If you have seen anything like the shots below you know what I am talking about.

Most computers are set to do an automatic update of the Windows OS and you may not even know you have been updated. There are usually several updates each month that will fix problems that have been discovered by Windows. These fixes are mostly compatibility of software issues.

These are more of my actual computer screen shots. As you can see the Windows updates will not load and install as they should.

I ran into a situation with this computer where there was a problem caused by the printer driver that made it and Windows not able to work together. The printer would say to update and check with Windows and then Windows would say the problems was with HP, the printer.

The printer would send me online to download updates only to have the computer, or Windows, say that the installation could not be completed. I was going in a circle. The printer would then send me to a list of things to check for and do such as reboot computer, reboot printer, check for Windows updates… again, etc.

It seemed to me that HP just had too many things running. I’ve seen this on several other computers as well where the whole suite of printer functions: print, copy, scan, fax, and edit pictures, to name a few, all get out of sync. I recommend not letting a printer load everything onto your computer that it wants to. Only set up the functions you plan to use. If you are not going to be doing faxing then don’t install that part of the driver. But I also realize that it is hard to figure this out when you are setting up a new printer or printer / copier / scanner unit.

What had to be done to this computer was really not very complicated and it is something you can do to your computer as well. Reinstalling the printer’s driver did not work. I had to un-install the printer driver for the “all-in-one” unit. This is done in the Control Panel under Programs (or Install / Uninstall Programs). I then reinstalled the driver using the disk that came with it and updated Windows.

Hope this is some help.

Why do you have a slow running computer?? Save yourself money and time with a FREE DIAGNOSTIC TEST:

Fixing Your Slow Running Computer May or May Not Be Simple

BUT, finding out what is causing the problem is… Downloading and running the free system test is easy, simple and safe. Repairing registry errors and removing junk files has restored literally thousands of computers. And it is worth a shot at yours.

Here are some actual screen shots of a computer that I ran this scan on not too long ago. The results are interesting. Maybe this can help you with making your next step.

GET HELP: Have your slow computer tested by a professional scan.
Click the Start button site and get instant HELP! This is a safe method of seeing the actual condition your computer is in right now. You do not have to buy anything. After the scan is complete you will decide if you want the software to do any repairs or not.

You can see on the download page at left that it will walk you through the process of starting the scan. You may have to “Save” it to your computer and you may have to double click the Error Fix download in your Download box to get it started. This depends on the operating system of your computer.

Also notice the are several “I’m Safe” logos placed here… that should give you some safety assurances. PC Cleaner is virus safe, highly rated, windows certified and award winning!

Next you see the results of the scan. Actually you are only looking at the Junk Files… found 45,810 of them. You can also click on the Registry tab to see how many registry errors were found. There were 622 on this computer. Also check the Privacy tab. It contains items such as your browsing history that could be accessible to spy-ware. The Bad Active X is like computer language errors, to keep it simple.

Does your slow running computer need its errors fixed? This is where you will decide what to do. The software can repair the errors very quickly, if you want it to. Or it can repair only the files you choose. And yes it will cost you… depending on the package.

OK, if you are like me you are wondering is this a scan or a scam.. right? How do I know if there really are as many errors and junk files on my computer as the scan will say? First… I have run scans on computers that did not show enough errors to justify having them cleaned up. They were either almost new computers or ones that had not been exposed to the internet much… so it does not “automatically” generate errors. And second… Error Fix offers a money back guarantee. Through the years I have used and promoted other brands of registry fixer software and Error Fix has had fewer refunds… almost none.

Bottom line is – every computer needs a registry optimizer if it is use regularly or is used on the internet. Try Error Fix and see what it finds. It may save you a lot of aggravation and money. Just…
